Farmers Almanac: Shutting Down? What We Know

So, the Farmers' Almanac is calling it quits after 2026. Big whoop. Another supposed "trusted" institution bites the dust. As if their weather predictions were ever worth a damn. Let's be real, it was always just glorified guesswork dressed up in folksy charm.

The End of an Error

Founded in 1818, blah, blah, blah. Two hundred years of "wit, weather and wisdom?" More like two hundred years of perpetuating the myth that you can accurately predict the weather months in advance. Give me a break. Anyone who actually planned their life around the Farmers' Almanac's forecasts probably also believes in the Tooth Fairy.

And the Old Farmer's Almanac jumping in with their Thanksgiving weather takes? Please. Old Farmer’s Almanac predicts Thanksgiving snow for parts of U.S. See early N.J. forecast. - NJ.com They're practically bragging about predicting snow in New England. Groundbreaking stuff, guys. Almost as impressive as predicting that the sun will rise in the east.

They're saying the Farmers' Almanac editors are based in Lewiston, Maine. Well, no offense to the good people of Lewiston, but maybe they should've spent less time churning out folksy nonsense and more time investing in some actual meteorological science. Just a thought.

The editors are encouraging readers to "keep tending what’s important" and "keep watching the weather and awe-inspiring sunrises and sunsets." Yeah, because we needed the Farmers' Almanac to tell us to look outside. Thanks for the profound wisdom.

The "Wisdom" of Guesswork

I'm sorry, but this whole thing just reeks of nostalgia for a simpler time that never really existed. The Farmers' Almanac was a relic, a quaint anachronism in a world of Doppler radar and supercomputers. And honestly, good riddance.

What’s next, are we going to mourn the loss of the Pony Express? Or maybe start a petition to bring back rotary phones? Some things are better left in the past, and the Farmers' Almanac is definitely one of them.

Farmers Almanac: Shutting Down? What We Know

Oh, and don't even get me started on their "gardening and astronomy advice." Probably just as accurate as their weather predictions. I bet half their gardening tips involve planting by the phases of the moon. As if the moon gives a damn about your tomatoes.

My uncle Al used to swear by the Farmers' Almanac for his vegetable garden. He'd plant everything according to their "secret" calendar. And you know what? His tomatoes always looked like crap. Small, mealy, and flavorless. Maybe he should have tried using actual fertilizer instead of relying on astrological mumbo jumbo.

I guess Sandi Ducan and Peter Geiger, the Editor and Editor Emeritus, are out of a job now. Well, maybe they can start a new career as fortune tellers. They've already got the "long-range prediction" thing down.

So Long, and Thanks for Nothing

"Stay tuned for more updates" as the transition unfolds, they say. What transition? From relevant to completely forgotten? I'm sure the internet will be just fine without another source of dubious weather forecasts and folksy platitudes.

The Farmers' Almanac’s blend of practical guidance and folksy charm made it a fixture in American households, they claim. I think people just like the pretty pictures and the feeling of connection to a bygone era. It's like collecting antique spoons – pointless, but comforting for some reason.

Speaking of useless collections, I've got a box of old baseball cards in my attic that are probably worth more than the entire Farmers' Almanac publishing empire. Then again, maybe I'm the crazy one here. Maybe people genuinely valued their… no, can't even finish that sentence.

Good Riddance to This Garbage Fire

The world won't miss it. It was a sham from day one, and I'm glad it's finally going out of business. Let's hope the Old Farmer's Almanac is next.
